Battaglia Di Stile: Giovanna And Sara

A double interview with the glamorous Italian sisters Giovanna and Sara Battaglia titled "Battaglia Di Stile" appeared in the April issue of Glamour Italia. Now thanks to the kindness of our contributing editor Francesca Berti, we can read the text of the interview in either Italian or English — grazie bella!

Battaglia Di Stile

SARA ‹‹Superglamorous e molto divertente››.

S. ‹‹La longuette a vita alta››.

CHE COSA PENSI DELLO STILE DI TUA SORELLA?
G. ‹‹Lei è un po’ diva. A volte bizzarra, eclettica, sempre sexy››.
S. ‹‹Elegante, classico, cool››.

S. ‹‹Qualsiasi cosa indossi è sempre chic.

S. ‹‹Il tubino nero››.

IL NEGOZIO DEL CUORE, L’INDIRIZZO SEGRETO?
G. ‹‹De Vera, a New York››.
S. ‹‹Come As You Are, un posto vintage di New York››.

G. ‹‹Anna Dello Russo, The Sartorialist, Garance Doré, Mr. Blasberg››.
S. ‹‹Jak & Jil››.

S. ‹‹Un vestito rosso fuoco››.

IL COLORE DI CUI NON PUOI FARE A MENO?
G. ‹‹Tutti, ma non amo il lilla››.
S. ‹‹Il rosso››.

LO STILISTA EMERGENTE CHE TI HA FATTO SCOPRIRE LEI?
G. ‹‹Andrea Incontri››.
S. ‹‹Marco De Vincenzo››.

S. ‹‹Il vestito troppo stretto››.

Battle Of Style
Translation from Italian to English by Francesca Berti

In the field there are Giovanna and Sara Battaglia, sister-icons of the fashion system. And then the most famous Little Black Jacket of the house of Chanel. Each sister has worn it in her own way, telling us curiosities and styling tricks. All on the occasion of a special exhibition…

They are two indisputable icons of fashion. One is a fashion editor, the other is a bag designer. Both are very paparazzied, they each have a unique and recognizable style. For this reason, prior to the exhibition on 6 April in Milan, we have asked Giovanna and Sara Battaglia to reinterpret with their personal style the mythical Little Black Jacket of Chanel. And then, we could not let escape the occasion of a double interview.

HOW WAS THE LOOK OF YOUR SISTER AS A TEENAGER?
GIOVANNA "Whimsical, a bit crazy. Like a Japanese manga."
SARA "Superglamorous and very funny."

THE ITEM THAT CHANGED YOUR LIFE?
G. "The stretch jeans, pin-up, that lengthen the silhouette, such as those of American Apparel."
S. "The high-waisted mini."

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE STYLE OF YOUR SISTER?
G. "She is a bit diva. Sometimes bizarre, eclectic, always sexy."
S. "Elegant, classic, cool."

HER WORST LOOK?
G. "More then anything else I would say unexpected: the evening dress with sneakers to go to the bar in the morning."
S. "Whatever she wears she is always chic. She was born just so."

THE BEST?
G. "The male look with blazer and shirt, lipstick and hat with wave, very feminine."
S. "The dress of Stephen Sprouse worn in Cannes, with the male jacket draped on her shoulders."

THAT TIME YOU MADE THE STYLING OF YOUR SISTER…
G. "When this happens, she listens to me up to a certain point, and then she starts to 'Sara-cize' all."
S. "If we do, we always seem to come back girls."

THE ITEM WITH WHICH YOU CANNOT DO WITHOUT?
G. "A black bodysuit by Dolce & Gabbana, fantastic."
S. "A little black dress."

THE SHOP OF THE HEART, THE SECRET ADDRESS?
G. "De Vera, in New York."
S. "Come As You Are, a vintage place in New York."

YOUR LUCKY CHARM ITEM?
G. "All the bracelets that I discover around the world."
S. "A pendant my boyfriend gave to me."

YOUR FASHION GURU OF YESTERDAY AND TODAY?
G. "Yesterday Schiaparelli and Vreeland; today Carine Roitfeld, the contemporary."
S. "The women of the past: I love very much the femininity and the retro elegance."

WHAT WILL BE THE NEXT BIG TREND IN FASHION?
G. "The great return of femininity and total elegance. Even if it is making its way, on the contrary, a strong rock emphasis."
S. "The return of the Japanese."

THE PHENOMENON OF THE FASHION BLOGGER: WHAT DO YOU THINK?
G. "They are a great voice, but I believe that not everyone will go forward. There is an issue of quality. I like the fact that, also thanks to them, fashion is back 'in fashion'."
S. "It is the new way of communication: but now there are too many blogs, and they are not independent as at the beginning."

THE BLOG TO WATCH?
G. "Anna Dello Russo, The Sartorialist, Garance Doré, Mr. Blasberg."
S. "Jak & Jil."

THE LOOK YOU WORE WHEN YOU CONQUERED YOUR MAN?
G. "In Venice, I wore a mini dress by Marc Jacobs with a maxi bow, I was a gift box!"
S. "A fiery red dress."

THE COLOR YOU COULD NOT DO WITHOUT?
G. "All, but I do not love lilac."
S. "Red."

THE EMERGING DESIGNER THAT YOU DISCOVERED?
G. "Andrea Incontri."
S. "Marco De Vincenzo."

THE ITEM THAT YOU NEVER LEND TO YOUR SISTER?
G. "A dress by Chanel with a sequined jacket that breaks if you look at it: it is a relic."
S. "I would lend all."

THE FASHION SHOW THAT THRILLED YOU MOST?
G. "The last show by McQueen in 2010, we were together."
S. "Also to me, with Lady Gaga singing and models wearing armadillo shoes."

THE STYLE MISTAKE NEVER TO MAKE?
G. "Wearing something that is not part of you. Pay attention to the length of the skirt with ankle boots and to the nude-color open-toe shoes, if the pedicure is not perfect."
S. "The dress that is too tight."

Giovanna Battaglia At Dolce & Gabbana Launch

Giovanna Battaglia hosted a cocktail party on Saturday to celebrate the opening of the new Dolce & Gabbana flagship boutique on Fifth Avenue in New York. Ardent supporters of the Metropolitan Opera, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana engaged tenor Matthew Polenzani and soprano Ellie Dehn accompanied by a pianist, a violist, a cellist, and two violinists, as the evening's entertainment for their party. The beloved Italian arias performed by the duo were "La donna è mobile," "Nessun dorma," "Casta diva," "Una furtiva lagrima," "Brindisi," and "O sole mio."

The fabulous guest list included Carine Roitfeld, Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Gisele Bündchen, Coco Brandolini, Bianca Brandolini, Peter Brant, Harry Brant, Brad Goreski, Marjorie Gubelmann, Zani Gugelman, Erin Heatherton, Constance Jablonski, Spike Lee, Chloe Sevigny, Stephanie Seymour, Tabitha Simmons, and Ziyi Zhang, many wearing Dolce & Gabbana in tribute. Giovanna was the picture perfect hostess, elegant in red Dolce & Gabbana, obviously.

When asked about D&G and their new location Gio responded, "Well, it's certainly a more established and important place in the American market. To be on Fifth Avenue... it's such an iconic street, and so many millions of people everyday pass through… People care about the soul of the brand, its identity. It goes so far beyond the clothes, it's a complete aesthetic, it's a Dolce & Gabbana world. It's la dolce vita!"

Giovanna Battaglia At 2013 Whitney Museum Art Party

The Whitney Museum Contemporaries hosted their annual party in celebration of art at Skylight Studios in New York last week, and Giovanna Battaglia looked stunning in Max Mara in recognition of the event's sponsor. I love that Gio chose to accent the simple and elegant line of the garments with the pop of red lipstick and the detailed earrings and necklace, perfetto! And is that an Edie Parker clutch she is carrying? Read about Giovanna's quest for the perfect red lipstick in her "Gio's Journal" for W this month.
